Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

It would be easy to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Does the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… sort of.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
