Three-time award winner Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Nuggets lost 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half following an accidental coming together with teammate Jones.
Jones came down on the footwear of the MVP, and he immediately fell to the ground grabbing his leg.
The 30-year-old, that tops the NBA this season in boards and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the contest before incurring the injury.
The player will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to assess the extent of the issue.
"Instantly, he realized something was wrong," stated Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that is injured, that's tough to see, most notably somebody as important as him. More information will come tomorrow."
"We will continue as a team. Clearly, right now, I'm more worried about Jokic as a person and the disappointment of facing something like that."
