Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
