New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities issued video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
