Liverpool's Manager Provides Zero Justifications and Pledges to Find Route From Malaise

Arne Slot stated he needed to “examine my own performance” after the Reds suffered a sixth defeat in seven Premier League games on their own turf against Nottingham Forest and affirmed he would find a solution out of the champions’ poor run.

Nottingham Forest, in the relegation zone prior to the match, delivered the biggest win at Liverpool's stadium in their club records as the Merseyside club slipped to an 8th loss in eleven matches in every tournament. The most expensive domestic acquisition, the Swedish striker, was once more unnoticeable and the home side contended the defender's first goal should have been disallowed for similar reasons to the captain's disallowed effort versus City before the international break. But Slot conceded the responsibility rested with him and made no excuses.

“Nobody wishes to listen to me now talking about refereeing decisions if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Liverpool head coach. “I should examine my own role initially and my team, but it demonstrates you how a goal can change the flow of a match. Before I was just waiting for us to net a goal. Afterwards we barely created any chances.

“Naturally there is a path forward, especially with the talented players we have. No matter if you win or are beaten when you look back you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we improve, in what aspects can we adjust?’ but that is something else from questioning yourself.

“I want to stress I am responsible for the current losses. You are answerable when you are winning but also responsible when you are losing. I can never provide enough excuses for us to have the outcomes we have. That is far from good enough and I am responsible for that.”

Liverpool’s performance fell apart as Slot introduced several offensive substitutions when chasing the game. “It was the identical on the road at Forest the previous campaign,” he remarked. “I took the French defender out and brought on [Diogo] Jota and he scored straight away to make it 1-1. At that time it was brave, currently it’s likely unwise.”

The Anfield side last lost two successive at Anfield Premier League fixtures against Nottingham Forest in the sixties. The most recent occasion they lost consecutive league games by a three-goal scoreline was in the mid-60s.

Slot said: “It was very bad. Competing at home, conceding 3-0 regardless of which team you encounter is a terrible result. Unexpected if you look at the opening 30 minutes of the game. I haven’t seen us producing so many chances in the initial half-hour perhaps the whole campaign, and the first time they arrived in our box they scored.

“It wasn’t at City, but in all other game we have been the controlling team and were able to generate chances. Recently it is almost consistently that we fail to convert our chances and the ones we allow go in.”
