Jurgen Klopp states a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, now holds positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead another team within the country. Which implies in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to draw him back to the touchline, he revealed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats a week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, yet sharing a meal with the players having a nice chat, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that won the league last campaign. The team has suffered a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the idea of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and its impact for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond the player himself, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Not a single person would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
