Former Doctor Faces Sexual Assault Charges Against 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician stands accused of carrying out assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.

The Grave Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

A senior prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges come after what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors said the 45 charges he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
