Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Concerns.
'Major setback' for the touring side after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.
Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the field early on day two in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.
Atkinson experienced discomfort in his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.
The touring camp stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "during the day".
The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January begins this coming Sunday.
The English side has previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.
Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad to provide backup.
The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.
He was omitted from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.
Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 with the bat as one of just three teammates to get into double digits.
Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he resumed the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.
However, towards the conclusion of his spell, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.
The English bowler was brought back for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
