Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
