Chinese Courts Sentences High-Profile Myanmar Fraud Syndicate Figures to Capital Punishment

A China's judicial body has handed down death sentences to several top figures of a well-known Myanmar mafia to execution as Beijing maintains its campaign on fraudulent networks in the region.

Altogether, twenty-one clan figures and partners were convicted of fraud, homicide, assault and additional offenses, said a state media report posted on the judicial website.

The group is among a few of syndicates that became dominant in the 2000s and converted the poor remote area of the town into a profitable center of casinos and entertainment zones.

Recently they turned to illegal operations in which thousands of illegally moved people, several of them Chinese, are trapped, abused and compelled to defraud others in criminal operations worth billions.
